Dale Staples from St Francis Bay has won a coveted entry to the Corona Open JBay after an imperious display of power surfing at the JBU Supertrial Powered by Monster Energy. Staples was in sync all day, ending off with a perfect 10 point ride for a deep barrel in the final. The Yzerfontein MTB race takes place today with a 78 km and a 52km route. The course looks flat and fast, with about half on tar and half on jeep track, with a bit of sand. It appeals to fit, non-technical riders who can spot ostriches, tortoises, flamingos and eland along the way. After epic waves for the first two days of the Outerknown Fiji Pro, the surf fizzled. As it is, they had to hold over the women’s event to the first day of the men’s. American Courtney Conlogue beat Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb in cranking 6-8’ Cloudbreak. Thre- time finalist at the Logjam, Dylan Swindale walked off with R10 000, in crumpled bar money and the Woodpecker Log floating trophy after winning the third iteration of the underground event at Muizenberg Corner last weekend. We get more good rain today as another cold front rumbles over us. Today sees a near galeforce NW pummel us, with strong showers lasting until tomorrow. The surf starts a messy 4’ and ends solid 12’+. Waves pick up in False Bay going on 2- 4’. Tomorrow solid 4-5’ in fresh NW winds. Muizenberg brushed clean by stiff offshores with 1-2’ waves.
