‘Brad’s death had a pur­pose’

“THE death of Bradley Richards will not be in vain.”

These were the words of Plet­ten­berg Bay vol­un­teer fire­fight­ers af­ter Richards died due to in­juries suf­fered while bat­tling the fires that ripped through the coastal town last week.

Richards, 24, was a mem­ber of the Plet­ten­berg Bay South Fire Man­age­ment Unit. Ian Barnard suf­fered se­vere burns try­ing to save him.

The vol­un­teer group’s main re­sponse ve­hi­cle was de­stroyed dur­ing Richards and Barnard’s or­deal, and most of their fire­fight­ing gear burnt when their work­shop was gut­ted in the fire.
