Interesting lots at Marimba Restaurant sale
ALL THE assets of the popular Marimba Restaurant and music bar, which closed its doors at the end of its lease at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will be auctioned by Bidway Auction House on site on Thursday.
The items on offer will include all the fixtures and fittings and the musical instruments used in its famous piano bar – making for interesting lots, says Bidway Auction House auctioneer and company head Stef Olivier.
Among the items going under the hammer is one of the world’s largest marimbas, which was mounted on the ceiling of the restaurant. Five more traditional marimbas as well as a sought- after 2003 Yamaha C3 piano will also be on offer.
“The piano has been played by numerous local and international guests through the years. It is in excellent condition, and was tuned and serviced on a weekly basis,” Olivier says. “We expect a lot of interest in this gem from the music world.”
The fixtures include a 3m by 6m mezzanine deck, light fittings, bar counters, bulkheads, soundproofing tiles and 2km of steel cabling, which formed part of the soundproofing system.
All the restaurant furniture, including 40 tables, more than 150 chairs and 20 bar chairs, will be auctioned on the day, as will kitchen equipment, such as a combination cold room/freezer room; a glass four-door walk-in fridge; a 2.5-door under-counter bar fridge; a five-pan convection oven; a chip fryer and a hood-type dishwasher, Olivier says.
A large selection of catering equipment will also be available, including crockery, cutlery, chafing dishes, bain marie inserts and glasses.
The auction assets can be viewed between 9am and 4pm on Wednesday, at the Marimba’s former premises at the CTICC. The auction will be held at the venue at 11am on Thursday.
