I woke up to a breakfast bounty

-

WHENEVER I venture outside the safety and comfort of my City Bowl and go house-sitting in the southern suburbs, I’m always on the lookout for great eating and drinking opportunities. The Vintner’s Breakfast at Steenberg’s Bistro Sixteen82 is one of those.

The special breakfast for wine lovers includes a glass of Steenberg bubbly with your choice of chef Kerry Kilpin’s classics on the breakfast menu as well as tea or coffee, followed by a cellar tour and classic wine tasting. With three ways to slather on the Hollandaise – classic eggs Benedict, mushroom Benedict, or eggs royale with smoked rainbow trout and baby spinach, this is breakfast heaven.

Other dishes include yoghurt terrine; parma ham or smoked trout wrapped with wild rocket and truffle scrambled eggs; assorted mushrooms, gorgonzola cream, chives, and buttered English spinach on rösti; and smoked trout and crème fraîche on wholewheat toast with avo pulp, roasted tomatoes, wild rocket, and chargrilled red pepper coulis.

On top of this, you get the bistro’s famous honey brioche – gorgeously golden and crisp on the outside, soft inside, and drenched with more honey. This should be an entire breakfast dish on its own.

Bistro Sixteen82 and the tasting room overlook tranquil pools and water features with views of mountain foothills through floor to ceiling glass walls,.

Steenberg wines include Méthode Cap Classique and award-winning Sauvignon Blanc to full-bodied reds, and some special ones like the signature Magna Carta white blend or the ultra-elegant Nebbiolo.

The Vintner’s Breakfast costs R150 and runs during weekdays (excluding public holidays) until July 21, available to tables of 10 or fewer people. Breakfast is served daily from 9am until 11am, and the Vintner’s Breakfast cellar tour begins at 11am. Booking is essential. Call 021 713 2211 or email reservations@bistro1682.co.za
