AROLL-CALL of A-list mu­si­cal stars have per­formed in Fred Abra­hamse and Mar­cel Meyer’s chil­dren theatre pro­duc­tions at Canal Walk, since the an­nual fes­ti­val was es­tab­lished in 2000.

This year, for the 17th edi­tion, Abra­hamse and Meyer’s mu­si­cal adap­tion of Peter Pan – by JM Barrie – will be staged in the theatre, which is in the Cen­tral Court.

Grant Almi­rall is play­ing Peter. Last week, in Joburg, he re­ceived the Naledi Theatre Award for best per­for­mance in a mu­si­cal for Sin­gin’ in the Rain.

Jenny Stead plays Wendy. The multi- award win­ning theatre-maker was nom­i­nated for a Fleur du Cap for her role as Janet in the Fu­gard’s 2014 pro­duc­tion of the Rocky Hor­ror Show.

Mar­cel Meyer, who re­cently wowed us as Ham­let at the Theatre in the Bay, plays Cap­tain Hook.

It seems a bit of a leap to go from Ham­let to Hook, but Meyer said: “Iron­i­cally, many ex-Ham­lets have gone on to play Hook, most fa­mously Sir Ian McKellen, who played Ham­let in 1971. He played Hook at the Na­tional Theatre in 1997.
