Cops, protesters, and dogs – the G20 in numbers
HAMBURG: The G20 is a monster, as the numbers show: 100 000 demonstrators, 12 000 chocolate bars to keep the press sweet and 185 police dogs. Here’s some of the summit’s most important digits.
Donald Trump went through the streets of Hamburg in a presidential limo known as, the “Beast.” The protesters had three of their favourite targets in their sights: Trump, Putin and Erdogan.
There are 14 access and identity control points in the security zones around the main venue. 17 police helicopters are being utilised overhead.
The authorities have registered 29 separate protests linked to the G20 between June 23 and today, the last day of the summit.
There are 36 delegations totalling 6 000 delegates.
The demonstration ban zone covers 38km2.
The G20 leaders represent 64% of the world’s population.
The police deployed 185 dogs and 70 horses.
The authorities can accommodate 400 potentially violent demonstrators in specially arranged collection points.
The media centre has 400kg of sausage and 12 000 chocolate bars available as part of 15 tons of food for the international press.
Some 19 000 police are on hand to safeguard the summit and watch over the 100 000 expected to show up for the concluding demo under the slogan “Borderless solidarity”. – dpa
