2 dead, four injured in two-vehicle crash in Paarl

- SOYISO MALITI

TWO motorists died and four were injured after a bakkie and a fire truck collided between Van der Stel and Bodal roads in Paarl yesterday.

Drakenstein fire services chief Derrick Damons said one of the firemen was flung from the truck.

The bakkie, the occupants of which were believed to have been delivering bread, crashed into a post after impact.

The fire truck had been attending to a call in Paarl East.

“The impact of the vehicle caused the fire vehicle to roll. The three firemen who were in the major pumper (fire truck) are all fine and have since been discharged,” Damons said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said a third passenger in the bakkie was hospitalised.

“The fire truck’s equipment was all over the place, shards of glass everywhere,” a paramedic, who did not wish to be named, said.

“The scene was hectic.”
