Bonkers barefoot jet lag cure
JET LAG is probably best overcome by getting out in the sunshine and sticking to your new time zone’s sleep routine.
But actress Naomie Harris has another, rather unconventional, notion for coping with the condition: take off your shoes and socks after landing. The actor, 40, has claimed that “grounding” after a long-haul flight, which involves resting your bare feet on a patch of earth, is “the best way to get in sync with a new time zone”.
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has also promoted grounding – also known as earthing – claiming it can also combat arthritis and depression.
Yesterday, Harris posted a picture of herself sitting barefoot in a London park to Instagram with the caption: “Got off the plane and did my two absolute musts post-flying... an oxygen facial (thank you @elemis!!) and grounding... The best way to get in sync with a new time zone is to whip your shoes and socks off and connect with the earth for a good 20-45 minutes!! Do that whenever you fly and you won’t get #jetlag!!”
An oxygen facial normally involves infusing the gas into skin with an air brush. This supposedly stimulates healing as well countering inflammation and bacteria. In recent years there has been a growing movement promoting grounding – the theory that being physically grounded connects people electrically with the Earth and results in health benefits.
It is claimed that wearing synthetic shoes means we do not have a natural electrical connection to the Earth. – Daily Mail
