Ex-leader’s burial

ERBIL: Jalal Talabani, whose presidency of post- Saddam Iraq symbolised the resurgence of the long-oppressed Kurdish people, was brought home yesterday for burial.

An Iraqi Airways plane brought Talabani’s coffin from Germany where he died on Tuesday aged 83. The plane was exempted from a ban on international flights imposed by the government following Kurdistan’s independence referendum last month. – Reuters
