Paxton, 17, carries Cape’s ‘Idols’ hopes
TALENTED Bishop Lavis singer Paxton Fielies, 17, will carry the hopes of Cape Town in tomorrow’s Idols SA finale.
Principal of Belhar High, Carl Davids, said he had confidence in Paxton’s ability.
“We knew she would make it far in the competition. Belhar High is an arts-focused school that boasts a variety of talent. Paxton is a born singer, here we just refined her singing abilities.”
Davids said the first time he heard about Paxton was when the video of her singing at school went viral.
“I called her to the office to sing for me and I was blown away because I’m a jazz music lover. She sang a jazz song; I forget which one.
“I thought: ‘Wow, she is so young and performed such a big song’.”
The 17-year-old dropped out of school this year to compete in Idols, but said she would return to finish Grade 11 and matric next year.
Davids said: “Paxton’s mom explained that she had a long itinerary after Idols ends, so there is a possibility she won’t come back, but we hope that’s not the case.”
Paxton’s family, friends and neighbours will watch the grand finalé on a screen at a field in Bishop Lavis Drive.
