the mating rituals of birds, Cremer’s images provide viewers with an idea of his exhilarating experiences in the African wild.
Geo Cloete from South Africa won the Photograph of the Year for his image Tentacle Tornado and was awarded first place in the Africa at Sea category.
He told the Weekend Argus that underwater wildlife photography was challenging; one never really knew what the conditions would be like environment we are blessed with in Cape Town,” Cloete said.
This is Iziko’s third year hosting the exhibition and it hopes to continue the trend.
“We want to focus on the developmental aspect,” Robertson said.
“Most of the entries are from foreign tourists and there are very few entries from disadvantaged groups. We need to encourage photography and see it as something that everyone can enjoy.”
The evocative photography aside, viewers can also delve into the Augmented Reality experience by downloading the Blippar app.
By placing a cellphone screen in front of a photograph, the app will automatically present options to learn more about the image, including its location and information about the organism captured.
“People will get to see wildlife behaviour here that they will never get to see in their lives.
“Brendon Cremer said he captured something that was a once-in-a-lifetime moment. I think there are many many once-in-a-lifetime moments here,” said Sephton.
“Moreover, you get to learn about the animals and about our love for nature, our connection with nature,” she said of the exhibition, which is on until March 4.
