Minnie honoured with Walk of Fame star

- Tyler Roodt

DISNEY cartoon character Minnie Mouse got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in California. It’s Minnie’s

90th anniversary as her first movie, Steamboat Willie, turns 90.

The stars embedded in the pavements along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard honour the work of actors, musicians, directors, producers, musical and theatrical groups and fictional characters.

Minnie received her star this week and pop singer Katy Perry was present at the event. Minnie is best known as the love interest of Disney’s most famous character, Mickey Mouse.

Minnie first made her appearance alongside Mickey and Pete in the animated short film by Walt Disney, Steamboat Willie in 1928, in which she played Mickey’s girlfriend and has done so ever since.

Minnie is more than just a beloved cartoon character; her signature polka dot style has been a source of inspiration for many fashion designers.

Perry commented on the character’s unique sense of style: “Minnie embodies iconic. Her style is the epitome of fun fashion. To this day, no one rocks a bow, the colour red, or polka dot quite like her. It is a special skill to bring joy to so many and she does it with the effortless bat of an eyelash. I am delighted to be part of honouring Minnie and her magic with a star on the Walk of Fame.”

Chairman and chief executive of The Walt Disney Company Robert A Iger was present at the induction ceremony.

“The star of more than 70 movies, Minnie has entertained millions of people around the world, touching hearts and bringing joy wherever she goes.

We’re thrilled to see her cultural influence and many achievements recognised with her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Iger.

Other Disney characters who have received stars include Donald Duck, Tinker Bell, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White and Kermit the Frog.
