Cool hi-tech unveiled at CES 2018

THE CONSUMER Electronics Showcase (CES) 2018, which took place in Las Vegas, offered a sneak peek at some amazing technology. Here are some of the cool items on show:

Sony has released the latest version of Aibo, a robot dog. Its ears now flap and its eyes show various emotions. The bot has a camera on its nose to help recognise family members. It costs $1 600 (R19 000).

Fans were curious to know if Aibo could learn any human languages. Sony project head Izumi Kawanishi said: “You don’t think about what the dog can do when you want to get a dog, do you?”

Samsung have released a 146inch modular TV which they’ve dubbed “The Wall”.

“It can transform into any size and delivers incredible brightness, colour gamut, colour volume and black levels,” said Jonghee Han, president of Visual Display Business at Samsung.

Individual parts can be removed from “The Wall” to enable it to fit into smaller rooms. Samsung have yet to put a price tag on the TV.

Makers of gaming hardware Razer unveiled Project Linda, a makeshift laptop that serves as a dock for their gaming phone.

By itself, it’s just a fancy laptop-shaped husk with a docking port where the trackpad on a regular laptop would be. But once the phone is connected, the shell becomes an Android- powered gaming machine.

While it won’t be powerful enough to run any high-end games, it will probably make Clash of Clans even more addictive than it already is. Project Linda is still a prototype, and no release date or price have been mentioned.
