Nom Nom: something for everyone

- NATHAN ADAMS

BENGUELA on Main did not survive 2017 and the fine-dining restaurant has been replaced by a new eatery.

Chef Jean Delport was at the helm of Benguela on Main in Somerset West, but he’s jetted off to take the reins at Leonardslee House & Gardens in West Sussex, England.

The space has been refurbished and rebranded into Nom Nom, described as “a space that is more accessible and comfortable for everyone and anyone”.

Executive chef of Nom Nom, Sebastian Smith, says: “The menu is designed to offer everything for anyone with a sweet tooth, a health kick, coffee craving or

He adds: “The classic, Knickerbocker Glory, is one dessert that must be tried out at Nom Nom; it has decadent toppings like fudge, fresh strawberries and chocolate – this is one of the many memorable items on the menu.”

Nom Nom opened its doors last week and offers freshly brewed coffee, daily baked sweet treats, signature cocktails and wine.

The menu is fresh and modern, and there will be a wine bar installed soon to serve Benguela Cove wines and a variety of plates with snacks.

Chef Sebastian says he’s crafted the menu so that people can have varied experiences.

It will comprise six different categories, namely: Brunch, Nibbles, Bread, Light, Hungry and Sweets.

Chef Sebastian is known for his pastry skills, so you shouldn’t skip dessert and don’t have a cuppa tea or coffee without tucking into a pastry.

Owner of Nom Nom, entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE, says it’s been quite a journey re-looking at their offering and the space.

“Revamping Benguela on

Main to Nom Nom has been a great experience for the team and myself. The eatery is open from 10am for brunch with tasty pastries paired perfectly with a great cup of coffee or tea.”

She adds that she wants everyone, especially their neighbours, to feel right at home: “The aim of opening Nom Nom is to create a space that will be open from early until late for residents of Somerset West.”
