Unity in Diversity seeks provincial positions

-

SOURCES from the rural caucus said their regions would push for more of their members and the youth to win important positions in the provincial leadership.

The Unity In Diversity (UID) faction, whose members are mainly from the rural caucuses, is believed to be backing Joubert Skei and Jonton Snyman for the secretary position, while the Dullah Omar region is likely to push for Vusi Mdala.

Late last year, the party agreed to have an early provincial conference this year.

“Mcebisi failed at national but now he’s coming back and his people are starting to work on the ground,” one source in the PEC said.

He also said the rural caucus and the UID “will be pushing aggressively” for their members to be on the leadership structure.

“The rural caucus doesn’t have a formal list of the top five positions, but there are some names being thrown around, including Joubert Skei and Jonton Snyman.

“Bongani Mkongi has openly stood up. Cameron Dugmore also came out publicly. His Gaby Shapiro branch, which has quality ANC cadres, has been very vocal about him standing up.”

Another source in the Boland region said they would push for Snyman.

“Historically, the provincial chairperson, secretary and deputy secretary always came from the metro. That has to change.

“The ANCYL in the Boland region has taken a stand against this. We’re saying the leadership must be spread across regions equally.”
