Blowing steam at geyser problem
ANNA supplied feedback on her geyser problem after last week’s question about rumbling in the pipes.
“We were grateful for Lee’s input, which we relayed to the geyser installer. When the installer arrived to deal with the geyser we explained Lee’s diagnosis involving the sacrificial anode. His head office told us we would have to pay for a replacement anode. Although the invoice dated March 2017 said the geyser had a fiveyear guarantee, with parts guaranteed for 12 months, the installer said the anode was not a component. But we had paid for the job based on the guarantees.
“Head office said the anode was guaranteed for six to seven months, so we were liable. The rep left, saying he didn’t have an anode with him. We await another call from the installer.
“Lee said if we had lodged a complaint six or so months ago, the installers should have informed the manufacturers of the defect. Lee said we needed to go back to the original installer, who should then contact the manufacturers. Lee is now our plumber of choice.”
I am not sure what the next step should be. See what response your husband gets when he phones. Tell the plumber you will contact the manufacturer directly if he does not rectify the problem. Unfortunately, most of us never read the small print.
I did not know anything about anodes until a few months ago – they are a very well-kept secret, but one I will be pursuing.
