Wham bam, it’s Band Slam!

THE SETTLERS High School beat out the competitio­n at the V&A Waterfront’s 2018 High School Band Slam’s close last week.

The shortlist of schools in the competitio­n included Bridge Town, Parel Vallei, Parklands College, Settlers High, Bishops, Elsies River, Wynberg Girls, Alexander Stinton, Rustenberg and Bergvliet.

Settlers High’s Dynamix Jazz Band consists of 14 pupils in grades 9 to 12. Between them they play the drums, piano, bass guitar, keyboards, guitar, trumpets and saxophone and sing. The band’s set included a rendition of In The Stone by Earth Wind and Fire.

Band director Tracey Johannes said: “They have been practising since schools opened at the beginning of the year.”
