Wham bam, it’s Band Slam!

THE SETTLERS High School beat out the competition at the V&A Waterfront’s 2018 High School Band Slam’s close last week.

The shortlist of schools in the competition included Bridge Town, Parel Vallei, Parklands College, Settlers High, Bishops, Elsies River, Wynberg Girls, Alexander Stinton, Rustenberg and Bergvliet.

Settlers High’s Dynamix Jazz Band consists of 14 pupils in grades 9 to 12. Between them they play the drums, piano, bass guitar, keyboards, guitar, trumpets and saxophone and sing. The band’s set included a rendition of In The Stone by Earth Wind and Fire.

Band director Tracey Johannes said: “They have been practising since schools opened at the beginning of the year.”
