Brave bunny and wooden boy to win over Beans

Two classics are on at the Artscape and Nassau theatres, and adults should enjoy them too

- Tyler Roodt

A DARING rabbit who does whatever it takes to save her kidnapped friend and a wooden puppet whose nose grows every time he lies are two classics on stage these school holidays.

Director Cheryl Abromowitz’s stage adaptation of Tales of Little Grey Rabbit is on at the Artscape Theatre. The story follows Rabbit and her friends Sally

Squirrel and Harry Hare.

The Little Grey Rabbit is a kind soul who is always nice to her friends, even if they don’t return the favour.

After a weasel moves into their forest home and kidnaps Sally Squirrel and Harry Hare, the Little Grey Rabbit must go out and rescue her friends.

While the story is aimed mainly at children, Abromowitz assures that it will be fun for the whole family.

“It’s mainly for kids aged two years and up, but we often have grandparents coming in to watch our shows,” she said.

Tales of the Little Grey Rabbit runs until April 9, and tickets cost R90.

The money will be donated to the Amy Biehl Foundation and Reach for a Dream.

The Lilliput Children’s Theatre Company is putting on its adaptation of Pinocchio.

The classic story of a wooden puppet on his journey to prove himself trustworthy, so that he can become a real human boy, has been adapted for the stage by director Elton John Duffy.

Duffy also plays the role of Pinocchio’s creator and father, Geppetto, while the role of the long-nosed wooden puppet himself is played by Marli van der Merwe.

Other roles include Buddy-Bo Butler as the Blue Fairy and Desle McConney as Pinocchio’s ever-helpful conscience, Jiminy Cricket.

After a sold-out run at the Baxter Theatre last year, the Lilliput Children’s Theatre Company are bringing Pinocchio to the Nassau Theatre at Groote Schuur High School in Newlands.

The play will run from Tuesday to Saturday at 10am.

Tickets for Tales of Little Grey Rabbit are available at www.artscape.co.za and those for Pinocchio at www.computicket.co.za
