Alli outperforming array of England legends

-

FOOTBALLER Dele Alli, 21, is vastly outperforming a dazzling array of England midfield legends after 100 English Premier League (EPL) games, new statistics have revealed. Alli celebrated his 100th EPL appearance for Tottenham with two goals in a 3-1 win over Chelsea last weekend to earn their first victory away to the Blues since 1990.

It was a stand-out performance from the 21-year-old, who had been left fearing for his place in the Eng- land squad ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

it further cemented his place as one of the Premier League’s most productive attacking midfielders with 61 goal contributions (36 goals, 25 assists) to his name already.

To put those statistics in context, Alli has contributed far more than Frank Lampard (18), Steven Gerrard ( 24), Paul Scholes ( 34), and David Beckham (43) managed in their first 100 Premier League appearances. The figures serve to suggest that Alli may be heading for similar or even greater heights than the legendary quartet, who acquired 402 England caps and 20 Premier League winners’ medals between them.

Making his figures all the more impressive, 10 of Alli’s goals have come against the division’s big six. He has scored five against Chelsea, two against Manchester City and one against each of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.

With 36 goals in the division already, Alli is on track to mount a serious challenge to Frank Lampard’s 177 goals, which makes him by far the most prolific midfield goalscorer in the Premier League era and fourth overall.

Whether he stays in England’s top-flight for long enough to reach it, however, is a different question.

His performances have drawn interest from Real Madrid and he could follow the same path as Beckham in moving to Los Blancos. – Daily Mail
