THE INDUSTRY PAYS TRIBUTE

- – Dr Iqbal Surve, executive chairman, Independent Media – Sandy Naude, chairman Cape Property Guide Management Board Group Harcourts Africa – Samuel Seeff, chairman, Seeff Property – Adrian Goslett, regional director and chief executive, Re/Max of So

“I had the opportunity to meet Pam over the years in my capacity as a businessman and also as chairman of Sekunjalo, and more recently as chairman of Independent Media. Pam was an outstanding entrepreneur, pioneering in many ways the innovations in the real estate industry in South Africa. She was one of the outstanding women entrepreneurs at a time when the glass ceiling was hard to crack as a woman in a largely male-dominated business environment. Most importantly, Pam was a wonderful human being, always smiling and always positive about the country. Her loss leaves an enormous vacuum in the business community as well as in the real estate industry. My thoughts are with the family, especially Andrew and Peter, who I have come to know as entrepreneurs in their own right, and who have taken up the baton where Pam has left off.”

“Pam was an inspiration and mentor in the early days of my media career, when female entrepreneurs were rare. Her love of people, great sense of style, fun and presentation built an iconic brand and has left a grand legacy for the property industry. Pam and her late husband, Cecil, were pioneers of the Cape Property Guide, whose management board remains today, more than 25 years later, as a family team with the industry’s interests at heart. On behalf of our long-standing board members Anne Porter, Bill Rawson, Samuel Seeff, Warren Brewis and myself, our condolences to board member and long-time colleague, Pam’s son, Dr Andrew Golding, and to the entire Golding family on their loss.”

“On behalf of the Seeff Property Group, my mother Carmella, brother Lawrence, and Seeff chief executive Stuart Manning, I note the passing of Pam with sadness and pay tribute to her for her significant contribution to the real estate industry. She has left a lasting legacy that will live on.”

“Pam created a highly recognisable brand both locally and internationally – and she did so with nothing but her courageous entrepreneurial spirit and dogged determination. We cannot help but respect her for that. Beyond this, she always conducted business to the highest of ethical standards, positioning herself as a positive role model for those aspiring to become a successful woman in business. Though I never knew her personally, she will be sorely missed in the real estate industry. From all of us at Re/Max, we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of her family, friends and colleagues, and wish her son Andrew and his family a long, healthy life in honour of this iconic lady.”

“Pam was a phenomenal woman who I highly respected. Her integrity, commitment to building the industry and passion for real estate will always be remembered. My condolences to her family, colleagues and friends. She will be sorely missed by everyone in the industry.”

“Pam will be sadly missed. She will always remain an admired iconic doyenne of real estate. I was privileged to have worked with her for close to 10 years and travel with her on many occasions, and it was an honour to have done so. Pam shaped the industry with her flair and marketing skills. I will always admire her qualities and attributes, and her eternal optimism and tremendous commitment to hard work will never be forgotten. Pam exuded charm, and besides her impressive tenacity and phenomenal work ethic, she was always ready to have fun. She was an amazing woman, and with her numerous talents and life experiences she touched the lives of many.”

“Pam was the total package; a formidable business rival with whom I shared a perpetual passion for the real estate industry, a big-sky thinker and an unswervingly ethical business leader who was instrumental in shaping this country’s property industry over decades. She was always a visionary and a lady through and through, with a warm personality that instantly drew her into any social setting or circle, and made everyone around her feel completely at ease. It was one of her many, many skills; such a formidable mind should have intimidated most people who didn’t know her well, but instead people flocked to her. It’s a deeply sad week for real estate in this country. We’ve lost one of the greats, and our hearts and condolences go out to the Golding family.”

“Pam was a respected colleague who has left an indelible mark on the real estate industry. Pam forged a path for herself and so many others during her life, and her passing has meant the loss of a great doyenne in the market. I had the privilege of working with Pam for three years, early in my career, and her passion for people and relentless energy was an inspiration to everyone, and something unlike I had ever seen. May she rest in peace.”–

“Pam has left an indelible mark on the real estate industry in South Africa. There is no doubt her legacy and impact on our industry will continue to be felt even with her passing.”

“I’ve known Pam since 1984. She was a true leading light, not only for the real estate industry, not only for women in business, but for all women. She was a consummate professional, and an absolute darling. She leaves a wonderful and dynamic legacy.”

“Whether it was starting a business from the garage of her rented house, opening a Joburg branch, a London office, launching a franchise arm, or developing the first real estate computer programme, Pam Golding Properties led the way. It is astonishing to note that these leaps forward were made, often on a shoe-string budget, when South Africa was at dire political or economic crossroads. That, for me, epitomises Pam: a positive, strategic, courageous visionary who loved and believed in the future of this country. Her indomitable spirit lives on. Our sincere condolences to her family.”

“Pam was a real estate pioneer and she laid the foundation for many successful South African real estate businesses and entrepreneurs. She had an unwavering reputation for abiding by real estate ethics and made major strides in certain areas of the market. She will be sorely missed.”
