Aunty Merle, The Musical. Marc Lottering’s feel-good hit musical is back at the Baxter until April 28 with an onstage band and cast of 14. Lottering plays Aunty Merle and Tarryn Lamb plays his daughter.

Others in the cast include Loukmaan Adams, Tankiso Mamabolo, Kate Normington, Adrian Galley, Carmen Maarman, Royston Stoffels, Alistair Moulton Black and Bianca Flanders and Ruben Engel.

The production was nominated for four Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards. Performanc­es are Mondays to Fridays at 7.30pm, Saturdays 2pm and 7.30pm. R100 – R195.

The Road to Mecca. Athol Fugard’s play is on at the Fugard Theatre until April 28, starring Sandra Prinsloo, Marius Weyers and Emily Child.

Direction is by Greg Karvellas. Fugard was inspired by the real life of “outsider” artist Helen Martins who lived in the Karoo but it is not a documentar­y and some of the characters and events are fictionali­sed.

Crossing the Line. Roger Thomas has written and performs with

Wojtek Lipins in this “meta-comedy” which is on at Alexander Upstairs from Monday until April 21, 9pm. Direction is by Jason Potgieter. Do you dream about chucking in the job and becoming a sex worker? In Shayne, a greying 40-something Londoner, gets away from the rat race and becomes a male escort to pay the bills. It is based on experience­s of people in the trade. Running time is 69 minutes. Warning: nudity, language, adult themes, cheesy music.
