THERE’S so much going on around the city this week, but here’s our guide of must-do weekend activities to help you make the most of your Freedom Day long weekend.

Calling all comic book and cosplay fans. FanCon Cape Town Comic Con is back this year, with the annual comic book convention promoting allthings geekdom descending on the Cape Town Internatio­nal Convention Centre this weekend.

Featuring local, national, and internatio­nal comic book talent and a range of other activities, this event is designed for young and old.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up as their favourite comic book heroes or villains.

A Weekend Pass costs R230, and entrance is free for children 12 and under.

Decorex SA, South Africa’s premier décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, takes place in Cape Town this week.

For the latest global design trends, beautiful furniture and art, head down to the Cape Town Internatio­nal Convention Centre to see some of the country’s leading design brands exhibiting their wares.

Decorex Cape Town runs until Tuesday, from 10am to 6pm daily.

Tickets cost R110 for adults, R100 for students and pension- ers, and R20 for children under the age of 12.

The annual Suidooster­fees, a festival celebratin­g all things Kaapse culture with a focus on the Afrikaans lan- guage, is back for its 15th instalment.

This year’s theme is Fantastic 15/ Fabulous 15, and it features some of the best local talent and events ranging from film and music to comedy.

Headline artists include the much- loved Evita Bezuidenho­ut, musician and TV personalit­y Nataniël, and actress Shaleen Surtie-Richards, among others.

Rise, a cultural concert for peace and human rights, takes place in Bonteheuwe­l today.

Rapper Camouflage, the i nter nationally- acclaimed Cape Flats Tenors and jazz artist Sam Hofmeester, are just some of the artists who will be performing at this free concert.

It starts at 2pm at the Bonteheuwe­l Civic Centre in Bluegum Avenue.

The concert is hosted by the Cape Cultural Collective and the Bonteheuwe­l Legacy Arts Collective, and hopes to unite the community through poetry, music and dance.

AfrikaBurn, the annual week-long festival celebratin­g creative expression, has once again descended on the Stonehenge Private Reserve in the Karoo.

This year’s event ends tomorrow, but if you’re willing to make the 300km drive outside of Cape Town to celebrate eccentrici­ty in music, art and costume, then this event is for you.

With themed camps, burning structures and music, it’s no wonder that AfrikaBurn continues to attract both a local and internatio­nal crowd year after year.
