Game farm near Barrydale ideal for an eco-tourism development
A GAME farm near the village of Barrydale, on the border of the Overberg and Klein Karoo, will be auctioned by BKB Properties on May 30.
The 7 833ha property is home to a variety of game to be included in the sale, as will the vehicles, furniture and equipment, says BKB’s Willie van Rensburg.
The farm has 18 portions, making it ideal for an ecotourism development, he says.
The lodge consists of a twobedroomed cottage with a full bathroom; two double rooms with full bathrooms; a large boma; a formal entertainment area; a trophy room; an office; garages; a butchery with a cold room; and a shed.
Other accommodation includes the main dwelling, which has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The property also has three two-bedroomed cottages and a one-bedroomed cottage. One cottage is situated in the mountains.
While there is excellent rainfall in the area, the game farm has a 25km underground pipeline, 12 ground dams, 10 boreholes and two reservoirs.
Van Rensburg describes Barrydale as “a lovely village on Route 62”, about three hours’ drive from Cape Town. “With its beautiful rugged mountains and flowing rivers, the area is a dream environment for artists and nature lovers. Over the years, many artists have visited the area, fallen in love with it and decided to make it their home.”
The area has fertile land and is malaria- and disease-free.
“This is a beautiful part of the Western Cape, and Barrydale attracts more and more people with its stunning natural surroundings, fertile soil, and endless tourism and farming possibilities. This property is excellent for game breeding, hunting and outdoor eco-tourism.”
The auction will take place on site at 11am on May 30.
