Discover how gross the body is

- Tyler Roodt

THE human body is strange, amazing and sometimes plain gross. This weekend, the Cape Town Science Centre (CTSC) wants to teach you how it works.

CTSC is running its new grossology programme, where it explores the science behind all things disgusting.

Grossology will include a new show titled “Gums to Bums”, which takes audiences through the human digestive system and its inner workings. Events and marketing co-ordinator at CTSC Gabi van Niekerk said: “The purpose of this event as with all the events at the Cape Town Science Centre is to get the general public to interact with science in a hands-on manner where they can see that science is fun and that they can understand concepts.”

As part of the show, attendees will take part in various other activities, such as how to make fake blood, extracting DNA from strawberries and making their own custom slime. The in-house coffee bar menu will also add a few things to fit the grossology programme.

Grossology is suitable for everyone from the age of four and you can buy tickets in advance from www.webtickets.co.za or at the door of the Science Centre at R55 per person.

The grossology programme runs until Tuesday.

“It is all about stimulating imagination and exposing them to the world around them in a fun way, and that is why we refer to it as edutainment.”
