DECORATING a home can be an overwhelming experience, says Decorex creative director, Anita Bloom. “It’s often difficult to imagine how a decor or furniture piece could work, or how to combine various elements without physically seeing them in the space.”

The 2018 @home Trend Home presented by Decorex this weekend at the CTICC will centre on the dominant Hygge trend, expressing simplicity, minimalism and quality of life. “It’s a space that makes you feel like curling up on the couch with a good book,” says Bloom.

HOME took a sneak peak to give our readers decor ideas.

Add Depth

Large-scale wall art in the bedroom creates depth of space, and brings colour and life to the room. This is coupled with wooden room dividers which provide an effective way to divide the living room area, making open-plan spaces feel cosier.

Natural Elements

Nature is brought into the home with indoor plants, greenery and fresh flowers and is complemented by furniture pieces that show thin, black lines of steel furniture with a subtle wood finish.

Colour

The home is coated in the

Decorex colour of the year – Mature Pink – painted in the Plascon match, Pasta Primavera, with the edging in Beijing Moon framing the windows and doors. The installation incorporates muted tones of grey, mixed with metallics and touches of black and mixes soft pink hues with muted minerals, hanging greenery and plants.

Fabric

Draped material enriches the patio, giving the outdoor area a warm, homely feel.

Multi-Purpose Space

The installation is open-plan living, merging the kitchen, dining area and living area, creating a multi-purpose home space for the modern lifestyle.

“It reflects simple living, industrial elements and minimalist design so as not to overwhelm from the splendour that is Cape Town,” says Bloom. “The layout is contemporary with simple storage and pops of colour within a spacious layout. Despite the minimalism, the space is comfortable and cosy.”
