QUOTES OF THE WEEK

-

My sister’s going to be one of the best things ever to have happened to the royal family. She will be the perfect modern princess. I wish Meg and Harry nothing but a happy and healthy future together – Thomas Markle jr, the half-brother to Meghan Markle who will marry the UK’s Prince Harry today. Thomas caused a stir a few weeks ago when he wrote an open letter to Prince Harry, calling the wedding “the biggest mistake in royal wedding history” among other remarks about his sister which he has since withdrawn. He was not invited to the wedding.

My grandfather said that the situation in Gaza was one of the greatest atrocities of his lifetime and this remains the same today. We condemn the actions of the Israeli army and call on the international community to act so we are able to realise a free Palestine in our lifetime – Mandla Mandela following the killing of an estimated 60 Palestinians by the Israeli security forces during a protest in the Gaza strip on the Israeli border. The SA government withdrew its ambassador to Israel following the violence.

South Africa didn’t condemn Hamas for bomb-throwing to the Israeli side, yet the latter is condemned for its retaliation. Hamas should be condemned by all for using children and women as human shields. A huge challenge now is that South Africa is not trusted by both sides because of its failure to remain neutral – ACDP party leader Kenneth Meshoe.
