Weekend Argus (Saturday Edition)
De Lille has displayed self-interest all the way
WHO would have suspected that not being mayor for a teeny-weeny bit would have transformed Patricia de Lille into a loyal DA member?
Wonders will never cease. In her time on radio, when giving interviews, De Lille was less than complimentary about “her” party. On that day, the DA was not her party of choice. Decidedly not.
Things have changed. De Lille is ready to embrace the DA yet again. It would be cruel and unkind to think of her as being fickle and opportunistic. Even mayors have days when they distort the truth.
De Lille is fighting for her right to resume the throne. How can we deny her?
Her lawyer, Dali Mpofu, maintained: “No harm has been done to the DA” – a specious remark if ever there was one.
De Lille has inflicted so much damage on “the party of her choice”, she should, in turn, be sued. There are the matters of a divided caucus, divided loyalties, an alienated voter base and a dark cloud hanging over the DA.
She has displayed self-interest all the way, with scant regard for the best interests of the city of
Cape Town.
The sanctimonious twaddle being spouted in court by De Lille and her advocate would be hard to fictionalise.
The mayor has selective memory and her hand-over-heart assertions are of a suspect and dubious nature.
