‘ We need your suppawt’

- JBJ Reporter

FROM birth, Zorg the puppy had suffered from a herpes virus which left him completely blind.

His owners had no idea what was wrong with him, and when he was six weeks old, they handed him over to the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, hoping they’d be able to better care for him. He was nursed back to health and eventually was able to see.

At eight weeks old, Zorg was adopted by Lindi Theron, from Brackenfell, who saw him on the clinic’s Facebook page.

“When I saw his little face I knew I had to bring him home. I said to my husband in Afrikaans, ‘Ek wil vir hom sorg,’ and that is how we got his name, Zorg,” said Theron.

Zorg is now four and he and Theron have become representatives for Mdzananda.

“I’ve been following Mdzananda’s work ever since I adopted Zorg. They recently lost their main sponsor and I was horrified. I had to help.”

Marcelle du Plessis, Mdzananda’s communications manager, said: “They were covering around 65% of our monthly expenses, so this is a huge blow for us. But we are extremely grateful for the support they were able to give us over the past years.”

To help keep the clinic going, Mdzananda launched the Paw Member campaign to get people to donate R100 each month, to go towards the clinic.

“R100 a month might not be a lot to you, but to one pet it can change their entire life,” said Du Plessis.

Theron and Zorg are both Paw Members.

Mdzananda have uploaded a video on their YouTube channel about Zorg’s journey so far, and why they think people should become Paw Members.
