PAIRINGS OF MOUTHWATERING DELICIOUSNESS

-

A HIGHLIGHT on the Franschhoek wine valley calendar, Anthonij Rupert Wyne will host the annual Shiraz & Charcuterie Festival on Saturday, May 26 from 11am till 4pm, where some of South Africa’s finest Shiraz wines will be combined with delicious cold cooked meats from artisanal producers.

In Anthonij Rupert Wyne’s range are the limited release Anthonij Rupert Syrah, the site-specific Cape Of Good

Hope Riebeeksrivier Shiraz, and Protea Shiraz. They will be joined by 18 of the country’s top Shiraz producing estates, which include Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Mullineux Wines, Rickety Bridge Winery, StarkCondé Wines and Hartenberg Wine Estate.

With its alluring spice and dark fruit notes, Shiraz makes a willing partner for almost any food, but charcuterie is a winner – everything from salamis and cured hams to chorizos will be available to sample and buy.

A bountiful harvest table will be laden with seasonal salads, home-made exotic mushroom and fontina arancini and olives, pickles and chillis to complement the meaty line-up.

The Macaron Bar, with decadent taste sensations like salted caramel, chocolate cherry, and milk tart will guarantee a perfectly sweet finish.

Pre-booking is essential as tickets are limited. Tickets cost R280 a person and include entry as well as tastings of the wines on show and samples of charcuterie. Book directly via www.webtickets.co.za, and enter our giveaway for a chance to win four tickets.

In addition, the farm has introduced a new Shiraz and charcuterie pairing presented in the comfort of the Terra del Capo Tasting Room. Charcuterie’s salty, aromatic flavours and sweet, rich fattiness are naturally complemented by the bright acidity, bold fruitiness and spiciness of Shiraz wines

– a partnership this tasting experience aims to highlight.

The pairing presents the popular Protea, terroir-driven Cape of Good Hope and flagship Anthonij Rupert ranges, accompanied by three Italian charcuteries – Napoli salami, Coppa and Parma hams.

The pairing is available Tuesdays to Sundays for R120 per person.

The estate operates on a “By Appointment Only” basis, so booking is essential. For more information and reservations, call 021 874 9074 or e-mail tasting@rupertwines.com
