Holiday art fun for the whole family

- Tyler Roodt

ART lovers are invited to take part in art teacher Sue Nepgen’s holiday art workshops in Constantia this month.

The main purpose of the workshop is to let young people enjoy art and learn new techniques that they may not pick up in school.

“Not many schools focus on art and this workshop will give kids a chance to take part in artistic activities,” said Nepgen.

Nepgen has been teaching art for more than 40 years and is running the workshops out of her home in Constantia.

“The kids can expect something different, on a higher level than what they normally do. They will have an opportunity to go out and see different things to draw inspiration from.”

Nepgen said that she holds the workshops primarily for kids who want to take part in art activities, but don’t get the opportunity. However, the workshops are not restricted to the younger audiences and she invites older children, teenagers and even adults to join in the fun. Each workshop carries a theme which changes every week.

“Many of the themes have to do with the natural environment and people in relation to nature. Working with the theme of nature is also healing, as well as educational about the environment.”

The workshops will take place over the month of July and will include classes on painting, clay sculpting and various other art forms using many different materials.

If you would like to book a class, or for more details on the workshops, you can contact Sue Nepgen on snepgen@xsinet.co.za or 021 794 6609.
