- MEHBOOB BAWA

FANS of Bollywood music are in for a treat when the much- lauded Pakistani singer Atif Aslam performs at the state-of-the-art Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 next Friday.

A Jainoodien Brothers Initiative, this will be the Mother City debut of an artiste who has won every major music award in Pakistan and India.

Aslam’s rendition of the Sufi- inspired Tajdare- Haram has crossed 100 million views on YouTube, becoming the first video originating from Pakistan to achieve the landmark record.

Originally sung by Qawwali artistes the Sabri Brothers, Aslam’s version has been viewed in 186 countries across the world. Aslam is in great demand as a singer for many Bollywood films and his repertoire includes popular songs like Pehli Nazar Mein, Tu Jaane Naa, Main Rang Sharbaton Ka and Tera Sang Yara.

Impresario Irfaan Jainoodien said: “My brothers Siraaj, Niyaaz and I are doing our best to continue the great work our late dad, Sharief Jainoodien, started in promoting many prominent international artistes like the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan locally.

“The last show he promoted here was that of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and it was only fitting that we paid tribute to him by bringing Rahat to Cape Town again earlier this year. Atif Aslam will rock this concert.”
