Robben Island to host Satma nominees release

THE 13TH annual South African Traditiona­l Music Achievemen­t ( Satma) nominees announceme­nt will be held on Robben Island, under the theme Embrace Your Heritage.

King Hintsa, King Langalibal­ele and Albertina Sisulu will also be honoured for their contributi­ons in the liberation Struggle of the country.

“As Satma awards, we have chosen Robben Island because of its rich history behind our democracy,” said Satma spokespers­on Mxolisi Ngongoma.

Among the guests will be Minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant, North West Department of Culture, Arts and Traditiona­l Affairs MEC Ontlametse Mochware, Eastern Cape local government MEC Fikile Xasa and former deputy minister of Defence and military veterans, Thabang Sampson.

According to organisers, this is “a glamorous awards ceremony held specifical­ly to honour our local traditiona­l musical talent”.

The announceme­nt will be live-streamed on Satma’s Facebook page as well as live Twitter streaming via @WeekendArg­us.

Exclusive content from the nomination­s ceremony will also be shared through @satmaaward­s Twitter Stories.

The 13th annual awards will be held in the North West, Bokone Bophirima later this year.

Last year’s nomination­s received 190 613 SMSes in under 100 days.
