Finest collection of sale items in 45 years

AT ITS summer sale to be held this Sunday, Kenny Finberg Auctioneer­s will bring to market “one of the finest selections of jewellery, watches, art and collectabl­es ever offered in our 45-year history”.

Auctioneer Kenny Finberg believes the variety of watches will be of particular interest as investment in watches is growing worldwide.

“We have timepieces for all tastes and wallets,” he says.

The brands available include Cartier, Omega, Tag Heuer and Mont Blanc for men and women. Under the Rolex brand are a fine 18ct gold Presidenti­al wristwatch, a highly collectabl­e Batman timepiece, a new Datejust watch with purple face, a two-tone Datejust, a stainless steel Daytona, and a Submariner.

“An 18ct gold Breitling Navitimer and a highly collectabl­e vintage Breitling Cosmonaute wristwatch will also be up for bidding. In addition, an IWC Pilot’s watch and a substantia­l rose gold Hublot Big Bang timepiece will be featured.”

The jewellery section, which will include many different designs and pieces from all periods, will include items in golds and platinum, encrusted with white, coloured and black diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and tanzanites.

“Among the more striking items will be a 34ct diamond line necklace, a pair of 5ct diamond stud earrings, a 15ct diamond tennis bracelet, and a 5ct diamond eternity ring.

“Smaller items will include designer dress rings and bands, earrings, pendants, chains, bracelets and brooches from across the spectrum, including antique, mid-century or modern. A selection of coins will also be available.”

The artworks on offer include a rare Picasso Madoura ceramic, titled the and designed in 1956. Another desirable offering is an original Damien Hirst spin work with great provenance.

There is also a whimsical screen print signed by Andy Warhol, as well as other works as diverse as a Rembrandt etching, a Henry Moore and an André Masson.

The selection of South African art will include a rare William Kentridge coffee set, which will be a highlight of the auction, as will a mixed-media portrait of a young boy by Nelson Mokamo, who is now an internatio­nal favourite.

Works by Norman Catherine, Pippa Skotnes, Louis Jansen van Vuuren and many more will also be up for auction.

Among the fine collectabl­es will be a variety of early Royal Worcester porcelain pieces and a substantia­l 19th century Sevres centrepiec­e.

The auction will also include sporting memorabili­a, ranging from a jersey signed by David Beckham to cricket memorabili­a, some Mandela-related items and a limited edition copy of signed by Roger Moore.

“Another show-stopper will be a 2006 white Mercedes C280 Elegance automatic sedan with 156000km on the clock and a full service history. It has had only one owner and was purchased from Orbit motors in 2006 as a demo model,” says Finberg.

The auction will take place at 11am on Sunday at the Radisson Blu Hotel, adjacent to the Waterfront. Viewing will begin at 10am.
