Organisation helps fathers, sons unite
FATHERS & Kids was started last June in Benoni, Ekurhuleni where it still operates from.
Operations director Mendy Nkosi explained that the organisation provides a platform for absentee fathers to spend quality time, bond and create memories with their children.
He believes that this relationship between a father and a child will create a more stable generation as those who lack a patriarchal figure often turn to substance abuse and gangsterism as a coping mechanism.
“The emotional strain of such households has bred generations of children who are emotionally troubled,” said Nkosi.
Fathers & Kids provides services for fathers to spend time with their kids according to their financial capabilities. “We do this through fun daily activities that can be booked for fathers and their kids.”
This includes day and personalised tours, the booking of accommodation and venues and activities and personalised gifts for fathers and children.
Fathers & Kids also provides the services of international and local flights bookings, vehicle hire, as doorto-door and chauffeur booking as well as events and workshops. All these services are easily accessible and can be booked on Fathers & Kids’ website.
“To help reach a wider variety of fathers a percentage of our proceeds is channelled to helping other mostly unemployed and destitute fathers create bonds with their children,” said Nkosi.
There are also ways for other men to get involved and play a paternal role in fatherless children’s lives. This includes a full mentorship programme, a part mentorship as well as the opportunity to be a Fathers & Kids ambassador. | Karishma Dipa
