Xterra’s off-road family sports adventure
Eikenhof Dam in Grabouw hosts this year’s event
LOVERS of sports and adventure will meet at this year’s Xterra SA Kids Race, which will be held later this month at the Eikenhof Dam.
The Xterra Kids Race is an off-road triathlon, consisting of a swimming race, a mountain bike race and a foot race. The event is suitable for anyone between the ages of 6 and 15 years, and the participants’ parents or guardians can join in, too.
Michael Meyer, managing director of Stillwater Sports, said: “The Xterra Kids Race is always the source of much excitement. It is heartwarming to see moms, dads, grandparents and siblings supporting the junior Xterra warriors from start to finish.”
The kids who participated in last year’s event had fun. One of them, Caleb Hunter, 7, took part in last year’s event with his three brothers. “I liked the running. The mountain biking was fun, but hard. I really enjoy Xterra,” he said.
Another participant, Klara du Plessis, 7, said: “The event was fun. I enjoyed the mountain biking the most. I’ll definitely come back next year.”
Ethan Hunter, 11, thought the course wasn’t terribly difficult. “Xterra is fun. I like it because it isn’t insanely hard,” he said.
“Junior Xterra warriors will get to watch mom and dad in action in the Xterra Lite Race before experiencing the fun themselves. We look forward to hosting two fun-filled days for the entire family out in Grabouw,” said Meyer.
The Xterra Kids Race will take place on Saturday, February 23. Tickets are priced at R100 for the kids’ events. Additional information can be found at www.stillwatersports.com.
