Sala’s body recovered from place wreckage

- MARK KERTON

A BODY recovered from the wreckage of a plane carrying a Premier League footballer and his pilot that went missing over the English Channel last month has been identified as that of striker Emiliano Sala, police said.

The body was identified on Thursday after the wreckage carrying the 28-year-old and pilot David Ibbotson was located north of the island of Guernsey.

“The families of Mr Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

“Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time,” a police statement read.

The investigation into the circumstances of the death is to continue.

Cardiff City, who had signed Sala from French Ligue 1 club Nantes before he boarded the aircraft, offered the families of the Argentinian and Ibbotson their “most heartfelt sympathies and condolences”. | A MATCH day programme with an image of Emiliano Sala on the cover, before the English Premier League soccer match between Cardiff and Bournemouth at the Cardiff City Stadium, in Cardiff, Wales, last Saturday. |
