TIP OF THE WEEK

-

You must be tired of me talking about insurance, but my conscience forces me to warn you about being under-insured. Unfortunately, this is highlighted when we are struck by disaster, such as the fires at Betty’s Bay and on Signal Hill. We tend to think it will never happen to us but when it does, I guarantee at least 20% of you will be under-insured. We are involved in tendering on fire damage in Betty’s Bay and I know of a couple of homes that are under-insured. So, dig out your policy and check the figures. Some insurers have online apps that help you calculate what you should be insured for, but these are not foolproof. I recommend you employ a professional, such as a quantity surveyor, to help. Remember you need to be insured for what it would cost to re-build your home, not what you paid for it or what the council or bank says it is worth.
