AN English grammar book is making learning fun and easy with its diverse ways of teaching the language.
The book,
Einstein’s Instant English,
was written by Rhona Wetzka.
“It is a fun-filled activity book for learning English or flushing out wrong usage one acquires over the years. It contains all the basic grammar presented in catchy rhymes, songs, comic pictures, quizzes, jokes, wit and humour which enthral the whole family from preschoolers to language experts,” she said.
She said the book had been on her mind for many years after she discovered the power of songs and rhymes by coincidence while teaching in Seoul, Korea.
“Soon after the Korean War, there were no English textbooks. I tried getting the children to memorise rhymes to help with their learning and found out not only how quickly they remembered the lessons but also how much fun they had doing it,” she said.
Wetzka said the pleasure of seeing her pupils’ joy at mastering English so quickly and effortlessly, motivated her to create to give pupils all over the world that same sense of joy and achievement.
“It is incredible that people still slog away at old grammar methods when they could achieve so much more in a fun way,” she said.
Wetzka said during lockdown she homeschooled an 11-year-old girl, using her book.
“I homeschooled Mbali Ndlovu, daughter of the gardener of the complex in which I live and brought her reading and writing, far below the standard of her age group, up to scratch, by using

Einstein’s Instant English.
“The catchy rhymes are easy to read and memorise. This done, she had to copy the rhyme into her scrapbook, self-check the spelling and illustrate the rhyme with a drawing of her own,” said Wetzka.
The book is available at bookstores and can be found on www.porcupinepress.co.za. It’s priced at R150.
