- STAFF REPORTER

GET ready to embark on an adventure with a brave girl and her feathered friend, a pelican, as they journey into the magical Costa Rican jungle.

Together, they will search for the golden seed known as “The Heart of the Ocean”.

This captivating and educational stage production from Denmark is coming to town to teach children new ways to deal with load shedding.

This unusual tale, brought to life by Baba Yaga Theatre and Teatret OM, will take place at the Theatre Arts in Observatory. The show combines physical theatre, dance and vibrant visual arts to create an unforgettable experience that speaks to the hearts and minds of young audiences.

Jori Snell, a performer from Baba Yaga Theatre, weaves her magic into this production, drawing from her diverse training in physical theatre, dance, directing, teaching, butoh (a form of Japanese dance), and visual arts.

She has crafted a world filled with excitement and magic, specially curated by a range of talented artists.

The Heart of the Ocean is a celebration of nature, imagination and the power of friendship. It encourages children to embrace their creativity, find joy in the world around them and learn valuable lessons about the importance of protecting our environment.

The work is the collaborative effort of creators Snell, who is a performer and scenographer, Sandra Pasini, an artistic consultant, and scenographic consultant Antonella Diana.

It is suitable for children aged 3+ and families, and is filled with adventure, bright colour, movement and music which was compiled by Stephan Micus, Voices of the Rainforest, Peter Broderick, Aphex Twin, Brendon Bussy, Zorn, Bruno Coulais, Metropolitan Klezmer and L’Orchestra Di Piazza Vittorio.

Snell said she was excited for the production and the young audience.

“It will be a joy to welcome children and their families into this world full of imagination, wonder and play, celebrating nature and the love for its beauty and enchantment.”

So, mark your calendars, gather your families and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the Costa Rican jungle.

The Heart of The Ocean promises to leave a lasting impression on everyone who witnesses its magic.

The show is on from February 24 to March 3 at 2 pm daily at Theatre Arts in Observatory.
