Mother’s Day art and craft idea to make mom smile

- GENEVIEVE SERRA genevieve.serra@inl.co.za

IT'S Mother's Day this Sunday, but do not fret: Jellybean Journal is here to help you create a personal gift for your mom.

Teachstart.com has great ideas for children, from making cute cards to this home-made flower bouquet, and all you will need is food colouring and paper etc, to get you started.

See the picture for the effect you want to achieve.

If you are still in preschool, perhaps it would be better to ask the help of an adult as it could get quite messy and to assist with the instructions.

Here we go, what you will need

• paper towel sheets

• food colouring

• paper straws

• green string or wool

• tape or craft glue

• decorative ribbon

• a pair of scissors

Step one, take your paper towel sheets, dot with food colouring and set aside to dry.

Next cut the paper towel sheets into in quarters using your scissors and be careful not to cut your hands.

Make sure the paper towel has dried and cut them into four quarters when doing this step.

Take each piece of the paper that you have cut and glue the edges together so that it overlaps and becomes one strip.

Next roll it into a swirl and watch how magic happens before your eyes.

Now, place a straw at the bottom of it, securing it onto the top of it.

Take the ribbon and twist it around the straw so that it creates a stem.

Add a bow made out of string or ribbon if you would like.
