QUEEN OF STYLE

Dressed up, dressed down, Kate could do no wrong

- By NICOLA WHITFIELD She even dresses down well. Kate in a waterproof jacket, Zara jeans and Superga takkies for her outing on the tall ship Pacific Grace.

FOURTEEN outfits at a whopping R1,08 million – that’s what went down when Kate graced the Canadians with her stylish presence during the Cambridges’ 31-engagement royal tour. Kate largely abandoned her love of high-street fashion, choosing to step out in a range of designer outfits. And while they were conservative, as befits a future queen, each showcased a duchess who’s upped her sophistication game.

Exquisite Jenny Packham, Preen and Dolce & Gabbana dresses were complemented by dazzling designer jewels.

“She’s managed to make grown-up sophistication look young and practical and has been tapping into some of London’s most sought-after designer looks while giving them her own unique spin,” one fashion writer raved.

“Kate is a pro who makes world travel look easy and impeccably stylish,” another said.

She has help, of course. Her staff – aka

STeam Kate – are tasked with making sure she looks her best at all times.

Hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker coaxes Kate’s dark locks into all their glossy glory. Natasha Archer is her PA and stylist and was officially instructed by Queen Elizabeth to make Kate look more regal when she was brought on board three years ago.

Then there’s Rebecca Deacon, Kate’s private secretary, who organises her diary and also carries gifts the duchess receives from the public. One needs one’s hands free when one goes walkabout, after all. FAR LEFT: A lovely Alexander McQueen dress showed off her slim figure to perfection.
