YOU (South Africa)

The president-elect

-

I join the millions of enlightened people around the world who rejoice in the election of Donald Trump, the man who took on the Republican and Democratic political establishment as well as the liberal media and won (YOU, 24 November). Thank goodness there will be no more Obama who squandered his opportunities and gave nice speeches but no action. OWEN, CAPE TOWN I wonder why people are expressing such negativity and fear about Trump? He had a campaign to run but already he’s toned it down.

South Africans should be more concerned about what’s happening in our country. The United States will always be okay no matter who their president is. Not like here. AVERIL MILLARD, GAUTENG I keep thinking I’m going to wake up and the US election result will all be one big nightmare. I’m not wild about Hillary Clinton but the prospect of that buffoon Trump as leader of the free world for the next four years fills me with foreboding and gloom.

Instead of “God bless America” a better slogan would be “God help America”. DISILLUSIONED, CAPE TOWN Congratulations, president-elect Trump! Politicians everywhere, take note: the people are disgruntled, the people have spoken. TRUMP FAN, SMS I’m glad someone new will shake off all the cobwebs in America. There’s so much poverty and lack of job opportunities and with Trump I see a new future. Please give him a chance before you judge him. It makes me surer that America is the land of opportunity! HAVE FAITH, EMAIL Read books penned by Donald Trump. He’s a legend and a leader. His actions say it all. I’m happy for America and it seems Clint Eastwood agrees with me. DIANA, SMS I’m delighted with the outcome of the American elections. Viva, Mr Trump. God bless you and your delightful family.

And Melania will fill the first lady’s shoes perfectly. IRENE, EMAIL
