GET OVER YOURSELF

-

I was angered by Hopeful’s response (YOU Say, 16 March) to Heartbroken’s dilemma of having to raise someone else’s kids while her own go neglected (YOU, 2 March). Apparently Hopeful had “tears in her eyes” and had to make ar- rangements over the weekend (poor her) to let her domestic helper see her kids.

Having lived in the UK where no one has domestic helpers I’m shocked at most of my friends in SA who claim hardship while sipping on Chardonnay and leaving their dishes for the maid to clean. Alleviating guilt through presents and birthday cakes isn’t the answer. Paying your domestic more and allowing half days and three-day weekends is more likely to make a difference.
