After 10 years together the former Spice Girl has decided to split from her film producer hubby
TALES of his volatile temper, her diva ways and their porn addiction are swirling in the wake of MEL B filing for divorce from her husband of almost 10 years, STEPHEN BELAFONTE (both 41). The British singer cited “irreconcilable differences” and asked for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter, MADISON (5). She’s also asked a judge to deny spousal support. Court papers filed in the Los Angeles superior court show Mel and Stephen have been separated since December. According to sources they’d been attending couples’ therapy but to nothing was working.
“Their personalities were like fire and ice; one minute it was pure adoration and the next it was war,” a source dished.
Their marriage certainly seemed tempestuous, with the America’s Got Talent judge conceding she can be difficult. “I have a massive ego. I always have done, famous or not.”
Stephen, an American film producer whose credits include Thank You For Smoking and Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, has a dodgy past that includes being charged with assault in 2003 after he attacked ex-girlfriend Nicole Contreras – with whom he has a daughter, Giselle (12) – during a drunken row. In 2014 his brother, Jeremiah Stansbury, called him violent and ruthless and urged Mel to leave him.
Sex was another contentious issue for the couple, who started dating in February 2007 and wed in June that year. Both were rumoured to have had affairs with women and were addicted to porn.
Thanks to a prenup, Stephen won’t get an equal share of his wife’s estimated $40 million (R500 million) fortune.
