FEELING CRAFTY

I popped along to the library in our retirement home and found a busy group of elderly women sorting through chips of coloured china and glass. A brush and saucer of glue were thrust into my hand and I was told to select a wooden cut-out and decorate it.

For two hours, we concentrated on sticking tiny coloured chips onto our chosen bird or animal. Nobody mentioned aches or pains. No one gossiped. We were all happily engrossed in doing something different.

Next week we’re applying grout and I bet there’ll be 100 percent attendance! MAUREEN SALTER, GEORGE
