TIMELINE 2015

1989-2007

Joins the SABC as a freelance reporter for TopSport. Works his way up to become a producer at Lesedi FM in Bloemfontein. Appointed to more senior positions, then moves to the SABC in Joburg.

2007

After clashing with head of news Snuki Zikalala he faces a disciplinary hearing.

2008

Appointed communications officer in the Free State provincial government.

2011

Seconded to the office of the SABC CEO as general manager for board and stakeholder relations. Appointed acting COO in December.

2014

In February the public protector’s report reveals Motsoeneng lied about passing matric and gave himself three salary increases in one year. But in July he’s permanently appointed as COO.

In November the high court in Cape Town rules that Motsoeneng’s appointment was “irrational and illegal”. In December an SABC hearing clears him of the court’s findings and the broadcaster asks the court to annul the public protector’s report.
