THORSTEN KAYE (RIDGE FORRESTER)
He was born Thorsten Ernst Kieselbach in Germany in 1966 and grew up in London before moving to the US in 1985.
The 51-year-old is also an author and poet, and has published a collection of poetry. Are you writing at the moment? Yes, I write children’s books. I have two young daughters, Marlowe and McKenna, and I try to tell them stories as often as possible. Sometimes they come back and say, “That’s cool but what if the dragon had yellow hats and then the blue hats?” – and we kind of make up the stories together. So you juggle this with working on The Bold? I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world. The Bold is a great job. The biggest problem is that I don’t live in LA – I live in Connecticut [near New York, almost 4 000 km from LA]. So I have to fly six hours here and six hours back every week. What do you love most about playing Ridge? His relationship with his kids. I just wish he could make up his mind and not fall in love every five minutes. I also sometimes wish he was kinder and stronger. What have been a few of your favourite moments on the show? Some of my favourites actually don’t involve me. When Karla Mosley went through her transgender storyline with Rick . . . those were some of my favourite scenes; some of the greatest stuff they’ve written here.
As far as I’m concerned I always like working with Rena [Sofer as Quinn] and with Katherine and with Heather [Tom as Katie]. The falling-in-love stuff is always fun!
