Big screen, small screen: what to watch

-

This local film tells the story of Xolani (Nakhane Touré), a closeted gay factory worker in Queenstown who works as a caregiver for initiates and starts a relationship with another caregiver. The filmmakers have come under fire from Xhosa king Zwelonke Sigcawu, who has said it’s insulting to the tradition of Ulwaluko (a ritual to initiate boys into manhood), something the filmmakers have denied.

The movie is in local cinemas for one week only to qualify for entry in the 2018 Oscars and will be widely released in SA in February.
