We all need certain amount of exposure to the sun – sunlight is our main source of vitamin D, which our bodies need to be able to absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones. But to get sufficient vitamin D you need only short periods of sun exposure. Repeated unprotecte­d exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppressio­n and skin cancer.
