SELENA’S SECRET MEDICAL CRISIS!
SELENA GOMEZ has proven her bravery in the face of adversity when she recently revealed she underwent a secret kidney transplant in May, with her best friend, actress FRANCIA RAISA, opting to be her donor.
Posting pictures on Instagram of the two of them lying in hospital beds, the 25-yearold singer and actress explained, “I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was lying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of.
"So, I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus, and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”
Selena went public with her Lupus diagnosis two years ago in an interview with Billboard magazine. Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which causes the body’s immune system to attack its own tissue and organs. “It continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made,” she added on Instagram.
Thanks to the love and support of her family and boyfriend, The Weeknd (27) – who reportedly scheduled all his work commitments around his girlfriend’s treatment – Selena has made a great recovery and has returned to work. She was recently seen on the set of an as-yetuntitled Woody Allen flick in New York.
